I’ve been a loyal, repeat customer at City Chemist for years, but my most recent experience was so disappointing and unsettling that I can’t return. Not only did I witness what appeared to be blatant price gouging, but I was also subjected to racial profiling by an employee. First, the prices at City Chemist have always been higher than at other local pharmacies, but I tolerated it for convenience. However, during my most recent visit, I was shocked by how much more expensive the same items were. It's not just me — I’ve heard other people in the community complain about inflated prices, especially when it comes to prescriptions. It feels like they take advantage of customers, particularly for things like medication, where people often have little choice but to pay whatever price they’re given. What really made this visit unbearable, though, was the treatment I received inside the store. I was followed around by an employee for no reason, which felt invasive and deeply uncomfortable. I couldn’t shake the feeling that I was being racially profiled. When I tried to hint at the inappropriate behavior — pointing out that following a customer around without cause is discriminatory — the employee ignored me and continued watching me closely. It was both upsetting and unnecessary. As a loyal customer who had always supported this business, it was disheartening to experience this level of disrespect and discrimination. After this encounter, I walked out and made the decision never to return. Between the exorbitant prices and the racial profiling, I can no longer justify shopping here. I hope City Chemist takes these concerns seriously and works to improve both their pricing practices and how they treat all customers, regardless of race. Until then, I won’t be coming back.

I’ve been a loyal customer of City Chemist for years, and I can’t say enough good things about this place. I feel that the pharmacy goes out of their way to get me my medication, and are very skilled at working with insurance companies to make things cheaper and more convenient for you. I've never had to wait for more than a day to have my medications order, and rarely did I have to wait for more than 30 minutes to have them ready for pick-up. They're that good. The pharmacists are very empathetic and compassionate, and go above and beyond to help. The pharmacy staff is sweet and I never get any attitude from them, unlike my experiences with commercial/online pharmacies. The front store always has a very pretty beauty and accessories display and I usually end up browsing through them all every time. Their window displays are always so beautifully decorated for the seasons and holidays, and gives off an intimate feel. I've been to their other locations too but I have to say I like this one the best.

It's not too hard to get to, seeing as the Graham Avenue location is no longer accessible. Wasn't very busy the morning I popped in, but it's pretty big, so I imagine it can get busy. Overall, it was a good experience.

I came in today 11/20/24 around 6:30ish PM. I saw that they had pretty good perfumes for women, so I was trying to find a nice perfume for my wife. The customer service is so horrible there. The front desk girls are so rude and not helpful at all. On top of that they just chit chatting and not helping the customers as they should. I asked the girl the one with the Brown hair with the hugeeeee weird lips about the perfumes and she was just terrible, she seemed annoyed when I was nicely asking her questions about the perfume! And the other girl that was there with black hair too! The manager should really give the job to someone that really wants and gives helpful nice customer service to people! Bad service!!!

It’s a beautiful pharmacy. Amazing selection. I am especially appreciative of Ricardo the pharmacist technician. He is the reason City Chemist is my pharmacy; he is kind, helpful to arrange insurance copayment and delivery to apartment nearby. Makes life easy. This is the best pharmacy in Long Island City. Beautiful store with exquisite items too and great spot for last minute gift shopping. Wish they would sell the large paper flowers in their window display!
